England-born Jeremy Filsell is one of a remarkably few virtuoso performers who concertizes equally as organist and pianist and who often performs recitals featuring both instruments. With piano concerto repertoire from Mozart to Rachmaninoff, as well as British composers, solo piano repertoire from Schubert to Howells to Gershwin, and a vast organ repertoire including the complete works of Marcel Dupré (Gramophone proclaimed his recordings of the complete Dupré to be “one of the greatest achievements in organ recording”), his programs offer delightful variety, interest, and suave British pomp. Dr. Filsell is the Director of Music and Organist of St. Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue in New York City.

From the Critics

“Brilliant performance…Filsell’s prodigious piano technique was clearly evident throughout this performance but always as a servant to the music…[the audience] burst into thunderous applause as they leapt to their feet.”
(The American Organist)

“Jeremy Filsell’s performance was of a world-class standard…This could so easily have been an opportunity for Filsell merely to stun the audience with his virtuosity; it is further to his credit that above the huge mental and physical demands a live performance of this work provides, his understanding of the music, and his success in communicating it with integrity and sensitivity, shone through.”
(Choir & Organ, London)

“Stunning recital…Exceptional instrumental virtuosity is only one aspect of the unusual musical talents of Jeremy Filsell, whose recording career has taken off with a splendid CD of the music of Eugène Goossens…. Marvelously played.”
(Felix Aprahamian, Church Times, London)

“I can’t think when I’ve heard such exciting organ playing….a fiery player, one who understands that music rarely wants to relax too much….this is playing of a remarkable rhythmic nuance.”
(Scott Cantrell, The American Organist)

From the Presenters

“Jeremy’s January 13th concert (with soprano Rebecca Kellerman adding a meaningful vocal element) was superb! On behalf of our Concert Series Committee (which I’m privileged to chair), it was a wonderful evening all-way-round. Not the least important regarding Jeremy’s appearance was his return, once again, to play our Möller…the organ on which, in 2000, he made history recording all of Marcel Dupre’s organ works – the extraordinary reputation of which has stood well the test of time. Jeremy’s concert sets a standard for our 2017-2018 Concert Series…”.
(Bob Bole, St. Boniface Episcopal Church, Siesta Key/Sarasota, Florida, January 2016)

“From the moment we met at the airport I was taken with his charm and graciousness, which never flagged during the several days he spent with us. His concert was simply spectacular−he executed every nuance of a very demanding program with ease and élan, and exploited every color of our extensive instrument….a distinguished artist.”
(Charles G. Frischmann, Lenape Valley Presbyterian Church, New Britain, PA)

About His Recordings

“Technically, he’s on top of the game…absolutely brilliant technique, demanding (and getting) enormous respect and appreciation for the supreme magnitude of the achievement [complete Dupré].”
(The American Organist)

“Dupré’s music is not only technically very demanding but is musically complex and consequently particularly difficult to bring off in performance. The challenge inspires Filsell to uniformly outstanding performances, which by their persuasive power can only come from someone who not only can play the music, but positively enjoys it too. Filsell’s astonishing interpretative and technical skills make for compulsive listening…this series sets the standard for Dupré interpreters of the future and is a landmark in the history of organ recordings…few British players can match his flair…superbly insightful…truly distinguished, compelling and unquestionably authoritative performances.”
(Gramophone, London)

“Sublime…virtuosity that hides virtuosity…An immaculate recital by an immaculate organist.”
(Classic CD, England)

“Jeremy Filsell gives a virtuoso performance, catching the mood and spirit of the music and using the resources of the organ to excellent effect….splendid playing.”
(Organists’ Review, England)
