Hailed as a “brilliant organist” (New York Times), Benjamin Sheen was named the winner of the Pierre S. du Pont First Prize at the inaugural Longwood Gardens International Organ Competition, and the second prize winner and Jon Laukvik Prize winner of the 50th St. Albans International Organ Competition, both in 2013. With a pedigree that includes being a chorister at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, organ scholar at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, and a graduate of the Juilliard School, he brings a remarkable insight and maturity to his performances of standard organ repertoire and in the area of orchestral transcriptions. He was appointed Director of Music at Jesus College, Cambridge University in the United Kingdom in early 2023. |

From the Critics
“Organist Benjamin Sheen gave the Town Hall organ a good work out with his performance of Francis Poulenc’s Organ Concerto in G minor. From its thunderous opening chords to the concluding chord, Sheen’s playing was agile and fleet. Sheen gave us a rollicking and high-spirited encored of Bach’s Fuga alla Giga, BWV 577 which delighted the enthusiastic audience.”
(Peter Hoar, Radio New Zealand, August 2019)
From the Presenters
“I think it’s fair to say that the Calvary organ has never in my hearing been used more effectively, sensitively, and responsively, or in the service of a more impressive and enjoyable program. Bravo, bravo, bravo.”
(Alan Lewis, Director of Music, Calvary Episcopal Church, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, March 2018)
“He is brilliant and our folks were absolutely thrilled by his music-making.”
(James Weaver, Executive Director, The Organ Historical Society, June 2016 OHS national convention performance)
“On behalf of the members of Grace Lutheran Church and the entire audience in attendance, I would like to let you know how much we enjoyed Mr. Sheen’s performance. His program highlighted every resource of the Casavant organ. His playing was excellent and he displayed the highest level of professionalism and mastery of the instrument. Thank you for representing such a fine musician!”
(Ryan Luckey, Lincoln, Nebraska Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, October 2016)
Mr. Sheen’s debut album, In London Town, will be released soon.
