From the Critics

“St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Locust Street, was the site of a most unusual recital Sunday afternoon, Jan. 19. Parish music director Robert McCormick was joined by Philadelphia Orchestra principal trumpeter and parishioner David Bilger and seven of his students at the Curtis Institute of Music for a program of music that showcased the brass choir’s most brilliant member and the newly restored Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ at the church. The recital drew an audience of a good 300 music lovers… The organ as a solo instrument was featured in the “Choral” movement of Vierne’s “Deuxieme symphonie.” The instrument’s countless colors, textures and dynamics were exhibited by McCormick in playing of technical wizardry and superb musicianship.”
(Michael Caruso, Noteworthy/Chestnut Hill local news, Philadelphia, PA, January 2020)

“McCormick proved to be a top-notch technician, able to convey power or sensitivity as warranted. He built Jongen’s work with careful attention to color, tempo, and dynamic level until ‘pulling out all the stops’ for the toccata. The result was electrifying. McCormick is an artist of rare sensitivity and passion.”

From Presenters and Audience Members

“Another amazing former Macon musician was heard today at Mulberry United Methodist Church. I do believe he is one of the finest organists and choral conductors in the country. Robert McCormick wowed the almost full house with his conducting in the Choral Evensong featuring choirs of Mulberry, Christ Church, and St. Paul’s Episcopal churches. Following the program, he performed a fabulous organ recital and did his own improvisation on four familiar hymn tunes. He brought out sounds from the organ never heard before. A truly mammoth talent this young man is! How fortunate we all were to hear him!”
(Susan T. McDuffie, audience member and music teacher, Macon, GA, November 2019)

“It was a great privilege to host [Robert McCormick] here. Robert was an absolute joy to work with, his lecture was informative and easy to follow, his rapport with the group was great, he showcased the organ well and had colorful registrations, and I can go on for hours. So in case you need it for documentation, the website, or anything…I give Robert a five-star review!”
(Tyler Canonico, Dean, Harrisburg Chapter AGO, September 2019)

“Robert McCormick made masterful use of the instrument, devising novel registrations [and] making the most of the symphonic and orchestral possibilities of the organ. His repertoire was well chosen to showcase the instrument at its best. His exceptional improvisation ability combined with expressive, rhythmically alive music making captivated the audience.”
